Shaping Teeth

Shaping teeth is a dental procedure that is done to improve your existing teeth's overall appearance and avoid costly orthodontics.

Misshapen, jagged or crooked teeth and uneven space between teeth can be shaped to be more attractive.

What is the process of shaping teeth?

The procedure involves recontouring teeth with polishing wheels and discs requiring NO anesthesia and is done in one visit.

Does it hurt?

Not at all.  The result is smoother, more attractively shaped teeth that are natural in appearance.

Tooth Bonding is the application of a tooth colored resin directly to the tooth and hardened with a special light.

Veneers are very thin, custom-made shells of tooth colored material designed to cover the front surface of the teeth. These 'shells' are bonded to the front of the teeth, which can change the color, shape, size or length of the tooth.

I get so many questions about dental procedures including veneers at my practice and I want my patients and the public to be informed to make proper decisions about their oral health and appearance.

Veneers are known by several names; porcelain veneers or laminates and are very thin, custom-made shells of tooth colored material designed to cover the front surface of the teeth.  These 'shells' are bonded to the front of the teeth which can change the color, shape, size or length of the tooth.

Why would I recommend veneers to my patients?

I recommend veneers to any one of my patients that are generally dissatisfied with their smile and want a more attractie appearance to their teeth.  Reasons for considering veneers are:

  • Cover discolored teeth due to tetracycline or staining

  • Lengthen short worn down teeth

  • Fix teeth that are chipped, worn or cracked

  • Align uneven or irregularly shaped teeth

  • Close a gap

  • Tired of bleaching-want a more permanent solution

What are the steps involved to get veneers?

My patient has to be actively involved in the decision making process.  I want my patient to tell me as best as they can what they are trying to acheive.  I examine the teeth to make sure dental veneers are appropriate.  I discuss the procedure and any limitations.  A new patient must have a complete comprehensive oral exam including x-rays.  We review the process at the first visit after a thorough exam and consultation.

The teeth have to be prepped on the first visit.   On the second visit, the veneers are bonded into place creating a natural beautiful smile.  Between visits the patient has temporaries in place that are esthetic in appearance.  Veneers can be accomplished in as little as two visits, and the effect will last many, many years.

Are veneers expensive?

At our office we offer interest free financing for twelve months.  The cost of veneers depend on the number placed.  The end result of veneers are truly life altering.  Patients experience a change in their lives socially, their confidence and self esteem.  That alone is priceless!

Tooth whitening was stumbled across as a resultant side effect of a gum treatment.  Peroxide was used as an oral antiseptic gel that was applied to the gums to treat the gums and applied for a long period of time.  Dentists started to notice that the tooth around the gums was whiter.

Our office offers Zoom! The World's #1 Light Activated Teeth Whitening System!  A concentrated whitening gel is applied to the teeth, and low and behold, whiter teeth.  Teeth are whitened in one easy visit.  This procedure is great for immediate results for those special occasions or for a whiter brighter smile.  Patients are also given whitening kits with customized trays to further enhance the whitening results.
